Full Time surgeon position at MSPCA/Angell, Waltham campus
Join one of the few American Animal Hospital Accredited veterinary referral hospitals in Massachusetts!
Angell West is a 24-hour emergency and referral hospital in Waltham, MA, a small city 11 miles from downtown Boston. We are a satellite hospital of Angell Animal Medical Center, an emergency, referral and primary care hospital that has been operating in Boston for more than a century. The practice is ideally situated within easy reach of Metrowest communities and those north and south of Boston, with many high quality primary care veterinary hospitals serving as our referral base.
The hospital is approximately 10,000 square feet, and has been recently renovated. We are equipped with 3 spacious surgical suites with natural light, a sizeable surgical preparation and induction area, ultrasound, echocardiography, endoscopy, laparoscopy, and telemetry. Digital radiography is performed on-site in Waltham with read out of all films by the boarded radiologists in Boston, and labwork and samples are sent to the fully equipped Boston laboratory staffed by boarded pathologists twice daily (in addition to in-house Abaxis, NOVA, and Procyte machines). We will be expanding our physical space in 2018 to almost double our square footage, and we are planning the addition of new equipment and services as part of this growth.
Our collegial staff includes an emergency/critical care department (2 specialists, 9 intern trained emergency doctors), internal medicine (two specialists), surgery (one specialist), avian-exotics (2 specialists), cardiology (one specialist and rotating doctors from Boston), neurology (appointments offered monthly), and behavior (appointments offered monthly). The surgery/anesthesia department is fully staffed with 4 technicians, 2 of which have extensive anesthesia experience. Collaboration is one of our core values, and you will find our staff to be excellent co-workers. Numerous professional development offerings include weekly seminars, frequent lunch and learns, several hours of journal club, and didactic learning (primarily at our Boston practice).
Angell West is operated by the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (MSPCA), a non-profit values based organization with a focus on client service, patient care, and life-work balance. We hold ourselves to an extremely high standard of excellence, another of our core values, as evidenced by AAHA referral accreditation for our specialty services, which differentiates us from many of the other referral hospitals in the area. Continual improvement is part of our culture, and we are now pursuing Fear Free certification to aid us in providing the best experience possible for our patients. This position provides a unique opportunity to practice at a non-corporate referral hospital in an intimate client-focused setting, but with numerous amenities from the larger Angell Boston hospital as support. We are looking for an individual who shares our values and is seeking a smaller hospital based setting with a busy clinical surgery practice. The caseload will consist of orthopedic and soft tissue cases, coming from appointments, in-house referral, and the emergency service.
Boston is a world class city with easy access to beaches, oceanfront and the mountains, and there are many cultural opportunities as well as famous Boston sports teams. Logan International Airport is a major airport allowing easy air travel. Angell has long enjoyed collaborative work with the nearby esteemed Longwood Medical Community (including the Harvard Medical School network of teaching hospitals).
We are seeking applicants that are board certified or have completed a surgical residency. Interested parties please contact email@example.com.
Additional Salary Information: We offer a competitive benefits package, a compensation plan consisting of a guaranteed base salary with additional production based payment, and a desirable work schedule (rotating weekends). Partial coverage of evening and weekend on call shifts is included in this position.
