Requirements
POSITION OVERVIEW 
The Associate veterinarian works with the Practice Owner to define and implement Practice 
medical policies and procedures that ensure quality patient care. They deliver medical, surgical, 
and dental care to patients. The Associate Veterinarian plays a key role in building and 
maintaining client relationships as well as relationships with the team. They may assist in 
supervising team members in their daily medical dues. This is a leadership position with the 
important responsibility of ensuring a positive work environment in which the Practice can 
achieve its goals. 
 
RESPONSIBILITIES 
MEDICAL AND SURGICAL 
Provides compassionate care to patients 
Consistently utilizes Fear Free Handling to facilitate a 
low stress visit for patients 
Practices veterinary medicine in accordance with evidence-based medicine and Green Prairie Animal Hospitals standards of care 
Works with the Practice Owner to set Practice medical policies and procedures; 
performs all dues in accordance with them 
Performs physical examinations using preliminary data provided by the veterinary 
technicians, diagnoses physical conditions, and presents diagnostics and treatment 
options to the client 
Performs medical, surgical, and dental procedures; provides emergency services in 
accordance with hospital status 
Interprets the results of laboratory procedures and determines the appropriate protocol 
based on the results; reads radiographs, ultrasounds, ECGs, cytology, etc. 
Prescribes medications in accordance with manufacturers label instructions and uses. 
Understands common side-effects and common drug interactions with other 
medications. Thoroughly educates clients when off-label usage of medications is 
required 
Thoroughly, accurately, and promptly updates medical records and SOAP notes  
Plans and carries out a significant program of personal medical continuing education 
Collaborates with and discusses cases with other veterinarians on the team 
 
CLIENT RELATIONS 
Takes time to communicate effectively with clients, presenting them with treatment 
alternatives and being sensitive to their emotional as well as financial status 
Sets an example for the team in interacting with clients; promotes the concept of the 
client-centered environment 
Helps to develop new programs and processes that meet clients’ changing needs 
Participates in and oversees client education 
Able to communicate effectively in person, over the phone, through text, and through 
email

Works with the Practice Owner to review key performance indicators and plan for 
changes as indicated 
Works with the Practice Owner on plans for developing and growing the business 
Assists the marketing effort by participating in community activities that focus on the 
veterinary profession 
Participates in doctor’s and staff meetings  
Understands EOS business model 
Performs other dues as assigned 
 
POSITION REQUIREMENTS 
EDUCATION AND LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS 
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree, or equivalent from an accredited 
university 
Licensed to Practice veterinary medicine in the state of Illinois 
Current DEA License 
USDA Accreditation 
Cat Friendly Veterinarian certification preferred 
Fear Free Certification  
 
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS 
Experienced veterinarians and new graduates are welcome!

Physical Effort: Work requires lifting and carrying patients and equipment weighing up to 
50lb; requires sitting or standing for extended periods of me 
Working conditions: May be exposed to unpleasant odors, noises, and animal feces. May 
be exposed to bites, scratches, and contagious diseases
