Description
We are a 6-doctor practice that is seeking a full-time associate to replace our retiring senior vet. We take great pride in finding the right hire that fits well and will hopefully want ownership and stay for their career. Of the six vets, only one vet has worked at another practice. The other five vets have come to Waunakee as their first and only practice. We strive to keep that type of culture and team mindset. It’s also a testament to the progressive clientele that we work with. We build strong relationships with them, which helps with pride and fulfillment in our careers. When we look to hire, not only do we want the right fit, but we also want to hire someone that brings new thoughts and ideas to help grow and improve our practice. We will encourage and support that type of mindset. We will provide mentorship as needed or when new or rare cases arise. When new grads get comfortable, we try to get them into alternating herd healths with us and eventually their own herds to work with.
We have a new vet clinic that we moved into in 2023. It is located outside of town in the country.
Northern Dane County has some of the best soil in the state and because of that, our practice area is quite dense. We service herds from 60 cow tie stall barns to 1600 cow freestall barns. Many of our herds are around 400-900 which allows us to be actively involved with the dairy. Being close to the University of Wisconsin provides us with the unique opportunity of having research and teaching done on many of our herds. We feel that relationship with professors and researchers has helped us stay at the forefront of new ideas and concepts.
Although we predominately work with dairy, we also work with beef and a little bit of small ruminants and swine.
We are a typical dairy practice in what we do. Ultrasound preg check, surgery, obstetrics, milk quality lab, Dairy Comp records analysis, calf barn ventilation design, embryo transfer, etc. We have grown quite a bit in calf health as well. We have adopted and implemented calf lung ultrasound.
Waunakee is a growing town since it is close to Madison. It is known for its strong school system. The proximity to Madison offers plenty of opportunities in the city – Badger sporting events, concerts, Broadway style shows, farmers’ markets, etc. Our location is close enough to the interstate and airport for traveling and still close to areas for hunting, fishing, hiking, and boating. We also can get away to World Dairy Expo in about twenty minutes.
We provide a competitive salary and benefits package. Phone, coveralls, ultrasound, and truck are all provided as well. On call is shared equally. We provide the afternoon off following our night on call. And a 3.5-day weekend following our weekend on call.
