Kansas State University (K-State), the nation’s first land-grant university, invites nominations and applications for the position of Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine. This is an outstanding opportunity for an innovative and charismatic leader to join a highly successful, fully accredited College at a public R1 land-grant university.
As the College’s chief academic and administrative officer, the Dean provides intellectual and strategic leadership, guiding the College’s mission of advancing excellence in teaching, research, service, and engagement for the benefit of animal, human, and environmental health. Reporting to the Provost and Executive Vice President, the Dean plays a key role in shaping the College’s vision for the future, fostering an environment of collaboration, innovation, and integrity for faculty, staff, and students.
Responsibilities include spearheading curricular efforts aligned with the AVMA Council on Education Standards, promoting high-quality student experiences, effective academic advising and mentoring, advancing research and engagement programs, and recruiting high-caliber students, faculty, and staff. The Dean actively builds enduring relationships with alumni, donors, legislators, and industry partners, and leads strategic fundraising efforts that support the College’s continued growth and impact.
The successful candidate will be a visionary, collaborative, and results-focused leader with a distinguished record of academic achievement, national or international recognition, and demonstrated success in higher education administration. Candidates must possess a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree and qualifications meriting appointment as a full professor. An advanced degree (MS, MPH, or Ph.D.) and/or Specialty Board Certification recognized by the American Board of Veterinary Specialties (ABVS) or equivalent National accrediting body is also required. A proven ability to develop and implement successful interdisciplinary programs, along with demonstrated success in fund development and external fundraising, is preferred.
