Position Summary
The Senior Medical Staff Manager plays a key leadership role in overseeing the performance, development, and well-being of veterinary medical staff within a fast-paced specialty and emergency hospital. This position ensures alignment between medical excellence, hospital operations, and employee engagement. The Senior Medical Staff Manager works closely with the Chief of Services and administrative management to maintain high standards of patient care, compassionate client service, streamline clinical workflows, and foster a positive, collaborative culture.
Position responsibilities
Leadership & Staff Management
Provide day-to-day leadership and guidance to clinical care teams.
Partner with service chiefs and department heads to manage caseload distribution, scheduling, and staffing levels.
Serve as a mentor and advocate for medical staff, addressing concerns, promoting professional growth, and fostering a healthy work-life balance.
Support recruitment, onboarding, and retention strategies for medical staff.
Clinical Operations & Quality of Care
Ensure delivery of high-quality, expert medical care across all specialty and emergency services.
Collaborate with the service chiefs to develop, implement, and monitor clinical protocols, standards, and best practices.
Facilitate interdisciplinary communication between departments (ER, specialty services, clinical staff, and administration).
Work to streamline clinical workflows, reducing inefficiencies such as documentation burdens or bottlenecks in patient care.
Performance & Professional Development
Conduct performance check-ins, feedback sessions, and evaluations for medical staff.
Identify and support opportunities for continuing education, training, teaching, and research initiatives.
Partner with leadership to design and implement leadership pathways and career development programs.

ABOUT THE ROLE
As Senior Medical Staff Manager in our Emergency department, you will play a pivotal role in supporting and developing our team of doctors and staff. Working closely with the Service Chiefs, hospital leaders and hospital administration, you’ll balance clinical excellence with staff management, ensuring our patients receive the highest standard of care while our team members feel supported, engaged, and valued.

Requirements
Position Requirements
- Minimum 5–7 years of clinical veterinary experience in emergency and/or specialty medicine.
- Minimum 2-5 years of prior leadership or management experience strongly preferred.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution abilities.
- Demonstrated commitment to mentorship, professional development, and collaborative care.
Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of experience in medical staff or clinical operations management (veterinary or human healthcare).
- Strong leadership and people management skills with a proven ability to develop teams.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of medical workflows, compliance standards, and best practices in a hospital setting.
- Veterinary hospital experience preferred; healthcare management background strongly considered.
