- Level 3 Associate Veterinarian - Community Medicine
Description
Provide veterinary medical care. Efficiently and effectively explain and recommend vaccine protocols based on pets' lifestyle. Diagnose and implement standard treatments for common basic disease processes e.g. FAD/superficial pyoderma, otitis, URI, diarrhea, CIRDC with assistance of SOPs and/or oversight. Attend 15-minute consultations and manage up to 25 appointments in a shift. Perform up to 45 cat spay/neuter, dog neuter, small and medium and large dog spay surgeries per day. Collaborate with other associate veterinarians, technicians, vet assistants, and client experience specialist to make daily plans and accomplish treatments or surgeries. Mentor Level 1 & 2 Associate Veterinarians in these areas. Understand and offer incremental care plans. Perform diagnostics such as cytology and lab work; refer chronic cases to full-service hospital as needed for additional work-up; utilize standard appointment times. Manage more complicated cases without assistance, and independently lead a code (CPR). Perform feline/canine spay/neuter (on large female dogs, postpartum, pregnant, pyometras), inguinal and abdominal cryptorchids, umbilical and inguinal hernia repair, wound management, cherry eye repair, enucleation, tail amputation, manage intra-op and post-op hemoabdomens, scrotal ablation, and ovarian remnant exploratory surgeries. Participate in onboarding "shifts" for new hire Associate Veterinarians, RVTs and VAs. Collaborate on case management and develop communication skills. Learn to co-manage cases with hospital staff. Recommend other supporting organizations (SOS vs. ACC, vs vets in vans) to collaborate care. Participate in Central Valley Expansion HQHVSN clinics without direct supervision. Background and Drug Screening required prior to start date. May be assigned to shifts at the Community Veterinary Clinic (2 shifts/week) and Mobile Vaccine Clinic (1 day/month) in San Francisco, CA.
Requirements
Education required and Experience required – Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from an accredited veterinary medical college or university and 4 years of experience as a Veterinarian.
Background – Valid California state veterinary license. 3 years of experience in a HQHVSN setting (performing high-quality, high-volume spay/neuter surgeries). Aptitude in clinical medicine and surgery, as demonstrated by the following: Ability to successfully complete routine and non-routine spay and neuter surgeries from start to finish without assistance. Ability to maintain a morbidity and mortality rate of less than 5% of patients treated. Ability to independently evaluate the health of patients seen and formulate treatment plans based on findings. 4 years of experience communicating, delegating and collaborating with various levels of multi-departmental staff, including nurses, technicians, administrative professionals, and individuals not on their immediate patient care team. 3 years of experience working at a fast pace and receiving direction (sometimes with competing priorities) from multiple supervisors. Experience in driving consensus, aligning team members towards common goals, and fostering an inclusive work environment where all staff and diverse perspectives are respected. Experience leading or coordinating at least 3 major projects or initiatives that required cross-functional teamwork, including new protocol implementations, major alterations to operational flow or policy, and significant changes to team dynamics. Knowledge of methods and means of dealing with human behavior situations in a variety of business circumstances. Experience in successfully managing competing priorities and mediating conflicts and disputes to achieve positive outcomes. Ability to delegate responsibility, achieve and measure results with team members. Must pass a Background and Drug Screening prior to start date.
Location – San Francisco CA.
