Winslow Animal Hospital is seeking a recent or upcoming graduate of a surgical internship, or someone with 3 years of advanced surgical experience in general practice to perform select orthopedic and advanced soft tissue surgery. We are a progressive, fast-paced small animal hospital located in southern New Jersey, 20 miles from Philadelphia and 40 miles from Atlantic City. Our AAHA-accredited, state -of-the-art 10,500 square foot facility was featured in the November 2011 issue of Veterinary Economics Magazine: "Merit Hospital Design Winner".
We are staffed with 7 superb veterinarians with diverse interests and a shared focus on client and team education and wellness care for our patients. Our owner/veterinarian performs many soft tissue and orthopedic procedures and offers his services to over 40 local veterinary hospitals in the South Jersey/Philadelphia region on a referral basis for the past 25 years. We have consistently been performing over 250 orthopedic procedures annually, averaging 4-5 CCL repairs weekly. The owner veterinarian plans to devote his time to management, and will be available for mentorship.
The majority (>75%) of orthopedic procedures performed are CCL repairs. We offer the Modified Maquet Procedure (TTA) and Lateral Fabellar Suture.
Other orthopedic procedures commonly performed include meniscectomy, MPL, FHO, shoulder OCD removal, long bone fractures, condylar fractures, mandibular fractures, Achilles tendon repair, and limb amputations.
Orthopedic equipment includes 3 surgical drills, complete plate and screw inventory from 1.5mm to 4.5mm, external fixation instrumentation, as well as specialized instrumentation to perform surgery on any size pet.
Soft tissue surgeries that the surgeon may perform include feline perineal urethrostomy, intestinal resection/anastamosis, TECA, splenectomy, among others.
Winslow Animal Hospital houses a canine rehabilitation facility, staffed with a CVT/CCRP, who has been performing rehabilitation therapy for 10 years, improving surgical outcomes for our patients as well as patients having surgery elsewhere, including the Veterinary Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.
We are equipped with an underwater treadmill, pulsed electro-magnetic field bed, 2 lasers, as well as other equipment commonly used for rehabilitation.
This is a great opportunity for a recent graduate with a strong interest in surgery to grow an existing non-specialty orthopedic referral service in a general practice. We have an excellent relationship with area hospitals, and make it a practice to return all clients to their referring veterinarians. Candidate must have thorough surgical experience particularly with CCL repair, as this will be the majority of surgeries performed. This qualified candidate must be friendly, a team player, outgoing and skilled in communicating ideas to clients and staff, and someone who excels in client service. Strong interpersonal skills are a must, as well as a dedication to maintaining a positive work environment and fostering a good mentoring relationship.
Candidate must also be able to be on their feet for most of their shifts and lift up to 50 pounds with or without accommodation.
Basic Requirements include DVM/VMD and licensure in New Jersey, as well as completion of an accredited small animal surgical internship program, or 3 years of orthopedic surgical experience.
