Brevard Spay-Neuter Clinic is a busy nonprofit spay/neuter/wellness clinic on the Space Coast in Florida. We have been serving this area since 2007. Our veterinarian is retiring and we are looking for a veterinary surgeon with a passion for serving pets in foster care/adoption programs as well as dogs and cats that belong to financially-challenged families who want to care for their pets but cannot afford standard prices for veterinary care. We have arrangements with local nonprofits to provide funding for income-qualifying clients.
We work directly and closely with rescue/foster groups in the county, so in addition to 20-25 sterilization surgeries each day, we also offer such surgeries as prolapsed third eyelid repair, entropion surgery, enucleation, amputations, tumor removal, dental cleaning and extractions, and any other procedure that affects a pet's quality of life that the attending veterinarian is able to perform. Blood testing is available in-hospital, both pre-surgical and comprehensive panels.
Our internal focus is on a positive workplace, collaboration, and veterinarian-driven medicine. The veterinarians are the leaders of our team, sharing their knowledge and expertise with each other, our support staff, and our clients. Our anesthetic protocols are established to ensure the safety of our patients but are always open to review by the veterinary team as a whole, and we strive to keep up to date with current literature and guidelines.
If overpopulation and shelter medicine is your interest, this area favors year-round breeding conditions but we are fortunate to be on the cusp of city and county-wide collaborative efforts to unite the community in service of this goal. There is much to be done, but with potential for change due to increased awareness and cooperation.
Brevard Spay-Neuter Clinic is a registered 501c3 non-profit organization, and qualifies for most service-based loan forgiveness programs. We are actively seeking a veterinarian of record, with surgical experience, who has or can obtain a Florida veterinary license. Training is provided for those with limited surgical experience. Qualified candidates should be interested in learning and leading. Full time or part time position is available, and compensation is competitive. A good fit for us is someone whose mission and vision matches our own; surgical proficiency and efficiency can almost always be obtained with practice.
The Veterinarian's hours are 8:00 to 3:00 Monday through Thursday. Surgeries are admitted starting at 8:00 am and completed by 2:00 to 2:30 pm with the veterinarian performing pre-anesthetic exams on all animals that are not feral or fractious, performing all surgical procedures, completing medical records and remaining until surgeries have recovered, usually around 3:00 to 3:30 pm. The only emergency duties are those associated with surgeries performed at our clinic.
Additional Salary Information: Salary is commensurate with ability, increasing with proficiency and efficiency. The above range represents $50/hr for a novice surgeon performing 15 surgeries in 7 hours to an experienced and efficient surgeon performing 25 surgeries in 7 hours.
