Upstate Vet Emergency & Specialty Care: Admissions doctor/hospitalist position
We are looking for qualified veterinarians to join our team of specialists to act as an admissions doctor and hospitalist on a rotating basis. In an admissions role, you will receive emergency transfers from referring veterinarians (currently appointments only, no walk-in emergencies), work up and treat cases with specialty service support, and transfer cases to specialty services and hospitalists as needed. In a hospitalist role, you will work closely with the admissions and specialty doctor teams, assisting in the intake of emergency cases and management of hospitalized patients. In both roles, you will facilitate transfers to the appropriate specialty service as needed and you will be responsible for managing hospitalized patients, creating and adjusting treatment plans, maintaining and updating medical records and communicating with clients and referring veterinarians.
Rotating duties as admissions and hospitalist doctor. Overnight shifts will be required.
Admissions doctors will receive referred emergency cases that cannot be directly scheduled with a specialty service. They will facilitate initial workup and treatment and transfer cases to the hospitalist for ongoing care or discharge from the hospital if appropriate.
Admissions doctors will also continue overseeing hospitalized cases that are not transferred to a specialty service.
Hospitalist doctors will receive patients to be hospitalized from the admissions veterinarians and will be responsible for management of admissions and specialty service cases overnight and on weekends, with ongoing support from the specialists.
Admissions doctors will receive minor follow up appointments
Work as part of the entire team to provide excellent patient care
Update patient information in medical records with latest findings and treatments
Communicate effectively with referring veterinarians and clients
DVM or VMD eligible to be licensed to practice veterinary medicine in the state of North Carolina
Active DEA license or eligible for DEA license
Minimum of 1 year of emergency practice experience OR minimum of 3 years of general practice experience
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Track record of working well in a team
Rotating internship experience preferred but nor required
