Big Dog Ranch Rescue(“BDRR”) a one-of-a-kind dog rescue facility located in Loxahatchee Groves, Florida is seeking an additional clinical and surgical veterinarian with an interest in shelter medicine to care for the dogs in our facility. Our recently built 33-acre campus includes cage-free housing for all our residents in comfortable, climate-controlled units. The medical operation is centered in our new 5,000 square foot hospital with state-of-the art equipment.
Duties and Responsibilities
Coordinates and directs the medical operation of a non-profit dog rescue.
Makes recommendations and assists executive director in the formulation of shelter medical protocols and decisions that influence operations to ensure optimal health of sheltered, fostered, and recently adopted dogs.
Assists in the evaluation and establishment of disease control and medical protocols.
Perform 30-35 spay and neuter surgeries per day.
Perform 20-30 physical examinations per day and thoroughly document exam findings.
Supervise and train veterinary technicians and veterinary assistants.
Provide regular review of medical and surgical protocols.
Maintains appropriate licensing and completes required continuing education courses.
Oversees the maintenance of drug and supply inventory while meeting and maintaining DEA requirements.
Adheres to state and federal regulations as well as organizational protocol regarding animal care, treatment, advocacy, and the mission of the organization.
Work in conjunction with the executive director to ensure smooth operation of the clinic.
Veterinarian position is a full time, exempt position, supervised by the executive director.

Requirements and Qualifications
Must be currently licensed by the State of Florida to practice veterinary medicine.
Current, active USDA Category I accreditation or ability to attain.
Current, active DEA License or ability to attain.
2-4 years of experience in small animal practice or shelter medicine environment.
Possess good surgical skills and able to sustain a heavy surgical schedule.
Able to work well under pressure and in a fast-paced environment.
Experience with Shelter Luv or other shelter software.
Willing to be available for 24 hours on call emergency shifts.
