Angell West is seeking a full time or part time Staff Emergency Veterinarian – for our busy Emergency/CCU service at Angell West located in Waltham, MA.
Angell West is one of just a few American Animal Hospital Accredited (AAHA) veterinary referral hospitals in Massachusetts. We are a satellite hospital of Angell Animal Medical Center, an emergency, referral and primary care hospital that has been operating in Boston for more than a century. Waltham, a small city 11 miles from downtown Boston, is ideally situated within easy reach of Metrowest communities and those north and south of Boston, with high quality primary care veterinary hospitals serving as our referral base.
Our Facility and Resources:
Our hospital is approximately 18,000 square feet and has been recently renovated. The hospital is well equipped with 3 surgical suites, ultrasound, echocardiography, a CT scanner, endoscopy, laparoscopy, arthroscopy, digital otoscopy, digital radiography, and telemetry. Our CCU is equipped with cages for continuous oxygen supply, and we maintain an on-site blood bank. Labwork and samples are sent twice daily to the fully equipped Angell-Boston laboratory staffed by boarded pathologists. Angell West is also equipped with an in-house laboratory, including a NOVA, Procyte CBC, Abaxis chemistry machine, and Abaxis coagulation machine. Full abdominal ultrasounds are available 6 days a week, and radiographs are reviewed 6 days a week by the boarded radiologists on site at Angell Boston. We also have an on-site physical rehabilitation practice, including a pool, two underwater treadmills, land based exercise facilities, and various ancillary services.
Our collegial hospital staff includes emergency/critical care, internal medicine, surgery, avian/exotics, dermatology, physical rehabilitation, and behavior departments, as well as a visiting cardiologist. The emergency and critical care staff includes 3 criticalists, 5 emergency veterinarians, and 3 rotating interns. Our emergency veterinarians are internship trained, team oriented, diligent, and conscientious. Collaboration is one of our core values, and our surveyed team members consistently rate the people with whom they work as one of the best parts of their job. Numerous professional development offerings include weekly seminars, frequent lunch and learns, several hours of journal club, topic based rounds, and didactic learning (primarily at our Boston practice).
Angell West is operated by the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (MSPCA), a non-profit, values-based organization with a focus on client service, patient care, and life-work balance. We hold ourselves to an extremely high standard of excellence, another of our core values, as evidenced by AAHA referral accreditation for our specialty services, which differentiates us from many of the other referral hospitals in the area. Continual improvement is part of our culture.
What Makes Us Unique:
This position provides a unique opportunity to join a well-known and respected practice at a non-corporate, non-profit, referral hospital. Our caseload and staffing affords the opportunity to both see emergency cases and manage complex in-patients with support, mentoring, and appropriate amounts of time to devote to such cases without feeling rushed. Our emergency veterinarians work closely with our specialists, encouraging continued professional growth. The qualified individual will be responsible for managing inpatients and overseeing the CCU, receiving patients through our emergency list, and participating in mentorship and training of our interns. The MSPCA is a values-based organization, with six core values of Collaboration, Compassion, Excellence, Integrity, Positivity, and Service. We are looking for an individual who shares our values and is seeking a collaborative client-focused setting.
We offer a competitive benefits package, a compensation plan consisting of a guaranteed base salary with additional production based payment, and a desirable work schedule. Our staffing, schedule, and benefits allow for considerable time away from work, providing an ideal life-work balance. When emergency veterinarians are away from the hospital, the emergency and critical care service has a seamless cover system so that patient and client needs are addressed, and time away can be enjoyed without stress or an increased work load on return.
