Hess McWilliams Veterinary Services, located in Amherst Massachusetts, is seeking a full-time large animal veterinarian with interest and experience in bovine, equine, small ruminant, and porcine medicine. Nestled in the beautiful Pioneer Valley and surrounded by the five-college area, we pride our practice on a high quality of care, compassion, and teamwork. The all ambulatory practice is compromised approximately of 40% bovine, 50% equine, and 10% small ruminant/swine. Our bovine services consist mostly of dairy cattle with some beef cattle for routine pregnancy herd checks, lameness, nutritional and care consultations, and emergencies. Our equine practice covers all patients from English and Western performance horses to backyard retired horses for wellness visits, lameness/sports medicine, reproduction, dentistry, and emergencies. The evening and weekend emergency services would be shared equally between the 4 full time veterinarians in the practice.
Our practice is fully equipped with in-house CBC and chemistry, on-the-truck portable chemistry machines (EPOC), digital radiography with a cordless plate, a SonoSite Edge II ultrasound with tendon and abdominal probe, a Lameness Locator, 3 Ibex reproductive ultrasounds, 3 Swiss power floats, speculums, and dental stands, a Neovet shockwave machine, a 1.5 meter Endo-i endoscope, and an i-Sperm sperm qualitative/quantitative analyzer. We also have an on-site heated exam room and 2 overnight boarding stalls available for specific cases. The successful candidate will also be provided a fully stocked ambulatory truck with Bowie box.
Our highly skilled office staff and veterinarians are devoted to customer service and client education and in return, our clients are respectful and very appreciative of our expertise and time. We pride ourselves on a great family-friendly flexible work environment. Most doctors choose to work a four day week and flexible scheduling is possible for the right candidate. Extensive mentorship will be provided, with daily case rounds and weekly meetings, as well as phone and in-person assistance from other vets available long-term. We have hired and trained new graduates before and care deeply about helping them succeed and learn in their first years of practice. We are looking for a candidate that is enthusiastic, passionate, and a team player with attention to detail. The successful candidate will be encouraged and supported to follow their interests and develop new areas of expertise for the practice. Massachusetts and Vermont licenses are covered by the practice as well as AABP, AAEP, and AVMA dues, and generous allowance for continuing education and travel expenses. Other benefits, including health insurance and retirement contributions are negotiable. Salary is commensurate with experience and desired work-load.
