Are you an experienced veterinarian that has a passion for teaching and entrepreneurship? Are you someone that loves to coach and mentor new graduate DVMs? NVA is looking for a Full time Medical Director to be a part of Chicago’s brand-new Teaching Hospital, servicing local non-profit rescue organizations and providing low-cost community care.
As the clinical leader of our first ever Teaching Hospital, the Medical Director, in collaboration with the Director of Divisional Operations, will be responsible for mentoring new graduates, fostering a safe environment for learning and teamwork, and ensuring quality medicine is delivered. The Medical Director will be responsible for setting clear program objectives and deliverables, creating measures for success, and communicating progress toward objectives with all stakeholders. The primary function of this role is leadership, teaching and oversight; however, some clinical practice may be required.
Duties and Responsibilities:
New Grad Mentorship
- Monitor new graduate performance, provide regular and effective feedback and coaching
- Set medical direction and standard-of-care norms, and ensure new graduates can execute against
- Accelerate new graduate surgical skillsets and confidence via one-on-one mentorship
Leading Staff and Practice
- Develop program documentation for the enrollment and recruitment of participants
- Attend outside recruiting events at universities and local community colleges
- Develop program details, including content development, facilitation, success criteria, measurement, and reports to key stakeholders
- Maintains and builds the reputation of the clinic in the community; encourages positive ongoing community involvement
- Assist with development and oversight of program budget and KPIs
- Manages partnership and relationships with divisional leadership, and local shelters and non-profits
Skills and Basic Qualifications
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree, or equivalent, from an accredited university
- Basic project/program management experience preferred
- Exceptional proficiency in surgical and dental procedures
- Excellent history of clinical mentorship, training, and development
- Strong business acumen and critical thinking

The Medical Director should thrive in creation and entrepreneurship and should have a passion to innovate for the benefit of the profession. The Medical Director should demonstrate strong initiative and intrinsic motivation, as they will have a significant amount of day-to-day autonomy and empowerment. This role may require minimal travel.
