The Virginia Racing Commission seeks two equine veterinarians for the 2022 race meeting at Colonial Downs Race Track in New Kent, Virginia, to work approximately 40 hours per week. The purpose of the position is to enforce laws and regulations on pari-mutuel horseracing in the Commonwealth, emphasizing the health and welfare of race horses. Race-meet responsibilities include but are not limited to: conducting pre-race inspections on horses entered; overseeing the paddock, starting gate, finish or test barn as assigned; providing emergency care to horses injured on the racecourse; performing logistical and administrative duties regarding the primary laboratory; overseeing the health, welfare and physical condition of all horses on the grounds, and monitoring morning training. The race meet starts July 11th and ends September 7th, with live racing every Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Horses start shipping in on June 27th.
Requirements include an unrestricted veterinary license to practice in Virginia.
