Jacksonville Animal Hospital is a 5-doctor, privately-owned, small animal practice located 20 minutes northeast of Little Rock, Arkansas close to the Little Rock Air Force Base. It is an easy commute against traffic from city living in Little Rock or country living in any of the many small towns and countryside in the area. The Little Rock area offers all the amenities of other large cities, including a wide variety of excellent dining and shopping opportunities. Additionally, there are amazing outdoor recreational activities nearby, to include hiking, biking, canoeing, hunting, fishing, camping, and more. Arkansas is known as “The Natural State” because of its natural scenic beauty, clear lakes and streams, and abundant wildlife.

Jacksonville Animal Hospital welcomes student preceptors/externs from AVMA accredited veterinary schools to come learn in our busy, real-world hospital. Students from schools that are not AVMA accredited are not being accepted at this time, because our state vet board will not allow you to get the hands-on experience that we provide. We are a 5-doctor, privately-owned, small animal practice housed in a large, modern facility. Our doctors are all ages, and they all want to help you learn! We are an affordable clinic with a high volume of interesting cases. We provide wellness care, sick/internal medicine care, soft tissue surgery, orthopedic surgery, dental care (including dental radiography), therapy laser, ultrasonography, and more. Our busy schedule and close relationship with our local shelter provides many opportunities to assist in surgery. If you want to learn about business, management, and human resources, our DVM/MBA owner will teach you. If you want to focus on medicine/surgery and skip the business side, we respect that and will stick to the medicine.

The hospital is open Monday through Friday 7:30-5:30 and Saturdays 7:30-12pm. Students would be expected to work as many of those hours as they desire. Students are there to learn and are not expected to provide technical help unless it is being done to improve their skills. There is no emergency or on call work. Minimal requirements as outlined by your university should be followed. Students are welcome to stay in the newly remodeled house next to the clinic at no charge during their visit. In addition to housing, a weekly stipend of $250 will be provided. We look forward to meeting you!
