The Oaks Equine and Farm Services, a thriving large animal practice (primarily equine) in beautiful southeast Virginia, is looking to hire our next associate veterinarian. Our multi-doctor practice prides itself in being family friendly and respecting your time off. We have experienced support staff so you can focus on being a doctor and not filling out paperwork. Veterinary assistants in the truck keep you efficient and safe. Our doctors enjoy collaborating on cases and using their individual strengths to best serve our patients. New graduates are welcome to apply and will be provided with direct mentorship to get them started off on the right foot in equine practice.
Our doctors are encouraged to develop their own special interests. We currently have multiple doctors trained in chiropractic care and acupuncture. One of our doctors handles most of our breeding work. Several of our doctors enjoy food animal work and service our beef cattle clients. Have something you love or hate to do? We will try to accommodate you!
Our doctors typically work 4 days a week, however we are open to discussing alternative schedules and positions other than full-time. Emergency coverage is shared and we utilize a backup system on weekends and holidays so you will never be drowning in calls. While the majority of our emergency calls are for horses, our veterinarians are expected to also see production animal patients on emergency. We are happy to mentor veterinarians who have limited food animal experience and help is only a phone call away.
The Hampton Roads region has something for everyone. Our practice is located in Smithfield, VA, a small town with immense southern charm. You’ll find beautiful walking and biking trails, a quaint historic downtown, and fun events like farmer’s markets and wine fests. Just a short drive away is the city of Norfolk, which has great restaurants and is home to the Norfolk Tides minor league baseball team and the Norfolk Admirals hockey team. If you love the beach, the Outer Banks of North Carolina and Virginia Beach are only a short drive away.
Position requires a NC and VA veterinary license, Category II USDA accreditation, and a DEA license.
