Hospital Description
We are an independently-owned small animal (dog and cat exclusive) emergency hospital located in Avon, Connecticut. We are open 7 days a week, 365 days a year, 10AM-8PM.
Completely renovated in 2015, with ongoing improvements, our hospital features a large treatment area with built-in oxygen unit, separate surgical suite and up-to-date diagnostics, including digital radiography, ultrasound and complete in-house laboratory. We currently have three internship-trained doctors with a combined experience in emergency medicine of more than 30 years. We strive to foster an environment of continuous teaching and learning with the goal of providing high-quality, evidence-based medicine for our clients and their pets.
Avon is situated in the Farmington Valley amongst a charming enclave of New England towns that offer dining, culture, recreation and exceptional schools. The Farmington Valley area provides easy access to New York City and Boston, each located approximately 2 hours away, as well as the Berkshire mountains and the Connecticut shoreline.
Position Description
We are seeking an internship-trained veterinarian with a desire to practice emergency medicine in a team-based environment. The person in this position will be required to work four shifts a week (10-hour shifts, 40 hours per week, no overnights or on-call) and three holidays per year. The person in this position will be expected to perform the duties of an emergency veterinarian in an efficient and effective manner, consistently providing high-quality, evidence-based care to clients and their pets. The person in this position will not be required to perform surgery beyond wound repairs, unless they have a desire to do so, in which case mentoring will be provided.

Required Qualifications
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree from an AVMA-accredited university
Completed, or on-track to complete in Summer 2023, a one-year internship
License in good standing
Dedicated to practicing high-quality, evidence-based medicine
Ability to combine education, experience and current research to make recommendations in the best interest of the client and patient
Ability to manage time and tasks efficiently in an emergency setting
Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in written form, with clients, colleagues and staff
Ability to maintain a professional demeanor and sense of humor at all times with clients, colleagues and staff
Commitment to teaching, and learning from, fellow staff members
