The Humane Society of St. Joseph County is dedicated to furthering our progress as not only one of Michiana’s largest open-admission shelters and adoption centers but also through our leadership in animal welfare and community outreach. We are in search of an energetic, compassionate, and innovated veterinarian (or a pair of part-time veterinarians) with a great interest in shelter medicine who will work alongside our motivated and caring staff to provide outstanding care for all of our shelter pets.
Our Shelter Veterinarian, as part of our team, will be responsible for ensuring the highest quality care for the animals. This is a full-time salary position that may require evening, weekend, and holiday hours. Occasional travel may be required. This position reports to the Executive Director, and works collaboratively with the HSSJC Board of Directors, Leadership Team, staff, and volunteers.
Incorporated in 1886, we are one of Indiana’s oldest service organizations and one of the areas largest animal care facility. Servicing the greater St. Joseph County region and multiple municipalities, the HSSJC sees over 3,000 animals each year. Requirements
Doctoral Degree DVM.
Indiana State license to practice Veterinary Medicine.
Experience in high volume spay/neuter clinic and/or post graduate surgical training preferred.
Two or more years’ experience practicing Veterinary Medicine in a veterinary clinic, hospital, and/or animal shelter or animal control facility preferred, but new graduates will be considered.
Candidate must promote and support the overall vision and strategic plan for the shelter.
Must possess a valid Driver’s License and insurable driving record.
DEA Certification and Indiana CSR License- or ability to obtain.
NVAP Accreditation or ability to obtain.
Experience in shelter medicine preferred.
Experience in emergency medicine preferred.
Demonstrate success in working with a diverse team.
Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing in a diverse range of audiences and settings.
Ability to handle stressful and/or difficult situations as presented by visitors, staff and/or volunteers.
