Under the direction of the Valencia County Animal Control Director, the Veterinarian is responsible for providing humane medical care, emergency treatment, high quality/high volume spay/neuter procedures, as well as a variety of other surgical and dental procedures, vaccination and good husbandry for all animals maintained at the Valencia County Animal Control Shelter and for a variety of public animals. The Veterinarian follows operational medical protocols based on best practices in shelter management and herd maintenance. Participates in Animal Control Department meetings to discuss the shelter population and devises plans on animal disposition, including performing euthanasia. Works closely with Animal Control/Shelter personnel. Participates in assigned activities with other department sections, outside agencies and the public.
