Job description
At Española Humane, we're rewriting the narrative for city animal shelters. Our commitment to progressive community programs, free spay/neuter services, and unwavering dedication to saving the lives of shelter pets has garnered us a reputation as a trailblazer in the field.
We are searching for a veterinarian to join our dedicated team, where you'll work alongside a compassionate group of shelter professionals who welcome over 4,000 homeless animals every year. Reporting to the Director of Medicine, you will be vital in providing medical care for shelter pets and delivering essential wellness clinic services.
Key Responsibilities:
Responsible for medical exams, care, monitoring, and well-being of shelter animals.
Administer wellness services to improve the overall health and quality of life for pets in our community.
Develop and manage preventative shelter medicine protocols.
Updates training, diagnostic, and treatment protocols for animal health.
Occasionally perform spay/neuter and other procedures alongside our surgeons and veterinary technicians.
Works with the Shelter Director to ensure adequate inventory of supplies, medications, and all drugs, including DEA-regulated substances.
Assists with euthanasia training and certification in conjunction with the Shelter Director
Maintains electronic medical records for shelter animals.
Collaborates with shelter staff on animal medical needs.
Actively participates as a member of the leadership team.
Qualifications:
Currently licensed in New Mexico and qualified to obtain DEA licensure.
At least three years of experience with shelter medicine, epidemiology, and disease recognition in a shelter setting.
Supervisory experience is helpful.
Able to work well under pressure and handle multiple tasks at a time.
Strong interpersonal skills, allowing you to effectively work with staff, volunteers, and clients from diverse backgrounds.
