The ASPCA Animal Hospital operates to relieve suffering and provide lifesaving care for animals who have been victims of cruelty and neglect, shelter animals, and for cats and dogs whose owners are experiencing financial challenges. Our relief veterinarians perform a variety of vital duties including urgent care appointments, management of hospitalized patients, and treatment procedures. New hires receive individualized on-boarding, training and support from our 10 staff veterinarians experienced in emergency care and procedures.
In addition, you will work alongside a board-certified internal medicine specialist and orthopedic specialist. Our ICU provides 24-hour care with a nursing staff of licensed veterinary technicians and hospital veterinary assistants. Modern diagnostic capabilities include ultrasound, digital x-rays, multiple options for POC in-house bloodwork, and dental x-rays.

Compensation and benefits:
The target pay rate for this role is $110 hourly for weekday shifts and $125 hourly for weekend shifts.
This is a temporary, contingent position and the person hired will be employed through a third-party staffing agency. Please note that we are not able to guarantee full-time work.

Managing Medical Cases (80%):
Provide high-quality, practical veterinary care to a wide range of outpatients and inpatients; perform diagnostics and treatments within the scope of our medical guidelines and recommend referral when appropriate.
Perform general emergency and routine procedures including wound treatments, bandage/splint placements, POCUS, unblocking cats, deobstipation, and more. All levels of experience welcome, mentorship will be provided.
Provide a high level of customer service to external and internal clients
While seeing appointments: Fulfill 30-minute appointment turnaround time
Provide a safe and compassionate environment for animals in our care, our staff, and for our clients by using low-stress handling techniques
Collaboration/Mentorship (20%):
Positive participation in doctors’ meetings/ICU Rounds
Empathetic mentorship and training of externs and interns
Provision of medical information and hospital representation to other departments of the ASPCA, to the public, and potentially to the media
Qualifications:
Ability to successfully work in a high-volume, fast-paced urgent care practice,
effectively multi-task with a high degree of integrity, accountability and without loss of attention to detail.
Ability to work well within a team and communicate effectively and courteously with all levels of staff including licensed veterinary technicians, hospital veterinary assistants, customer service representatives and managers
