Looking for a full time or part time equine veterinarian for an ambulatory equine practice in NW Indiana. Practice is mostly ambulatory covering countryside in both Indiana and Illinois along the northern Indiana border. Practice focuses primarily on preventive medicine and workload consists of routine wellness and dentistry, vaccinations, health certificates and bloodwork, emergency care, as well as reproductive work (cooled semen AI with mare/foal care). Although the practice is ambulatory, some clients haul in for routine work and reproductive work; and there are foaling stalls with cameras at the facility for mares to foal and be bred back. Patients vary from performance and pleasure horses, to trail horses, to backyard horses with a large amount of geriatric care to some long time patients. Emergency on call will be split evenly between the other doctor with Purdue Large Animal Hospital approximately an hour away for referrals. The area that the practice covers has several boarding facilities and a large horse ownership population.
Although experience is preferred, all applicants will be considered. The practice is well established and has been present in the area for almost 20 years with a good following. The practice owner is willing and happy to mentor if the applicant requests and would consider resumes from student externs and new interns. New associate will be provided with a cell phone, computerized medical records and computer for onsite billing, fully stocked vehicle, access to assistants and access to radiography, ultrasound and power dental equipment.
The practice base is located in Northwest IN. We are close to Chicago (less than an hour away) and several State Parks (eg Indiana Dunes State Park and Lake Michigan) and county parks. The wineries in Michigan are also close by and make for a good weekend excursion. There are local horse show arenas for smaller caliber shows and several of the local county parks have trail riding.
Benefits will include membership dues paid for IAEP, AAEP and IVMA. Licensure paid for IN and IL (including state, federal and controlled substance) as well as federal accreditation. Employee discount for own equine. Continuing Education stipend. Liability insurance provided. Vehicle expenses covered. Emergency call incentives. Vacation and personal days.
