We are proud to be the oldest family-owned private veterinary hospital group in America! Founded in 1926 in Brighton, MA, Callanan Veterinary Group (CVG) now operates five hospitals in the Greater Boston area and one in Warwick, RI.
Company History
1926
Patriarch PJ Callanan founded Toureen Kennels in Brighton Massachusetts.
1950s
P.J.'s son, Robert Callanan, joins the team at Toureen.
1966
Dr Kevin Callanan graduates as MRCVS in Dublin Ireland and future founder of the Brighton Animal Hospital.
1976
Brighton Animal Hospital
P.J.’s son, Kevin Callanan, MRCVS, expands the family business by opening Brighton Animal Hospital.
1993
Neponset Animal Hospital founded by Joesph Callanan
1994
Union Square Veterinary Clinic
The Callanan family business grows again, with Dr. Kevin Callanan and Dave Ahearn opening Union Square Veterinary Clinic in Somerville.
2003
R.I. Animal Medical Center and Four Paws Pet Resort
Dr. Kevin’s son, Charles, broadens the family enterprise into Rhode Island, launching a 18,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art veterinary and pet care facility.
2008
The Brighton Animal Hospital is moved to it’s brand new location in Watertown and becomes Massachusetts Animal Medical Center.
2016
Facility Renovations everywhere , Union Square Veterinary Clinic undergoes a full makeover, adding orthopedic surgery and grooming services.
Neponset receives an exterior upgrade.
2022
The family business expands once more with the opening of Wellington Circle Veterinary Center in Medford.
