Description
Kokopelli Veterinary Center is a growing, independent practice in a modern, new hospital on a beautiful campus with lots of room for the future. Our hospital was designed with community outreach and calming influences in mind, featuring native outdoor gardens, water features, natural lighting, live indoor plants, aquaria, hospitality areas, and all surrounded by art from local artists exploring the human animal bond. We have a collaboration with a local shelter to help adopt kitties and donate funds to a local, grassroots non-profit benefiting homeless pets.
Our practice started 8 years ago focused on reproductive health and we have the only two board-certified theriogenologists serving small animal patients in Northern California. This clientele is dedicated to the health of their animals and strives to produce the healthiest puppies and kittens possible. It is their passion and ours. From this foundation, we also offer the full range of general practice medicine and surgery, making us a true “cradle to grave” family veterinary service.
Our practice features all the typical modern tools: digital radiography, dental suite, laparoscopy, AI transcriptional medical records, VetSnap for controlled substances, EzyVet PIMS, ultrasound, full lab and surgery capabilities. We have a chiropractor certified in animal therapy. We have active collaborative services with boarded surgeons, cardiologist, ophthalmologist, and nutritionists, all of whom regularly consult with or visit our campus. For all other specialty services we have fostered excellent relationships with multiple local referral hospitals. We have 3-4 support staff for each veterinarian.
Besides our beautiful brick-and-mortar campus, we have a veterinary truck we use to service local farms and ranches. If you have an interest in farm animal work, we can discuss your involvement in these services
We are seeking experienced veterinarians for either part-time or fulltime positions. Skills in general medicine, surgery, and dentistry are desired. As a privately owned, local business, you are free to practice according to your best judgment, and opportunities for future partnership buy-in do exist. While we certainly have room for and welcome those who want to perform the job each day and then be done with it, this job is especially well-suited for the candidate who has an eye toward building something excellent and leaving their mark on it. We offer competitive base wages with production bonuses. Generous PTO, 401K match, CE and license reimbursements, and health insurance are all offered.
The Sacramento Valley is a wonderful place to live with plentiful outdoor and indoor recreational opportunities. It houses both CSU and UC campuses with attendant amenities and student life culture. We have a thriving philharmonic and opera, traveling Broadway series, many community theaters and live music venues for big and small name artists. We are home to the Sacramento Kings NBA team, and minor league teams for baseball and soccer. Also known as “The River City,” Sacramento is the intersection for the American and Sacramento Rivers, which offer summertime floats, rafting, and year-round fishing. Many nature parks and greenways break up the urban and suburban landscape. The food scene in Sacramento is vibrant, from local dives to Michelin-rated/recommended options. Easy weekend getaways can be had in the Napa Valley, Lake Tahoe, Monterey, or the Bay Area. Also within an easy day drive are Yosemite, Pillars, Joshua Tree, and Death Valley National Parks. Disneyland is a 6-hour drive and Hawaii is an easy 6-hour flight. Sacramento International Airport is one of the best, easiest airports you will ever fly into or out of, with direct flights to all major North American cities. The climate is dry and hot in the summer, mildly cold in the winter (with world-class skiing less than 2 hours away), and delightful in Spring and Fall.
Requirements
The candidate should be available 2-4 days a week and willing to work 1 or 2 partial weekends a month. Solid knowledge and experience in general medicine, surgery, and dentistry are required. Knowledge and interest in Theriogenology is not a requirement. This position could remain a part time position, or could grow into that of medical director and/or business partner, given the right fit.
